Beyond Van Gogh - Immersive Art Experience in Anaheim, CA near Disneyland
Your imagination is powerful. Combine that with the art of Vincent Van Gogh and an interactive immersive experience and you are set to experience a memorable time at the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.
What you can expect:
Introductory room to get you started. History brief pieces that showcase various periods of Van Gogh’s life and his journey with art
A secondary room called the ‘waterfall room’ that is small but exposes your senses to warm up for what’s next. This room is more peaceful and tranquil but isn’t the main exhibit room
The main room where you can sit or stand. The interactive art plays for about 35 minutes. This is the immersive and final room of the exhibit so be sure to stay for at least the full show (it loops on repeat)
Let the room become alive as you absorb light, movement, textures, sound and color all in one. It’s as if you’re in an alternate world artistic piece.
Tips:
Try to get a ticket for earlier so there are less people in the main room
If you need / prefer a bench, there are only a few. Otherwise it’s standing or sitting room only.
Watch the show from one side of the room and then enjoy it from a totally different angle. You’ll see new things every time.
Free your mind. It’s so hard to knock out the chatter we all have sometimes, but it’s so great to get ‘lost’ in art. I encourage you to see what pops up in your mind as you experience the dimensions, colors, sounds.
Since you already have to pay for parking, make it an Anaheim day and walk the surrounding areas (maybe check out Downtown Disney or the nearby hotels)
My takeaways from this immersive at experience:
There is no right or wrong art.
Capturing nature is powerful. Some people, believe it or not, don’t get to see landscapes in real life, so enjoying it artistically is a gift just as it is to experience in person.
There are so many shades of color. Every think about how many shades of blue there are? Just wow.
The night and day are equally beautiful but there’s something about the starry sky that transports your mind to a different reality.
Be open. If you just look and listen, art brings out thoughts that only you can experience, making this immersive and interactive experience one of a kind.
Art comes and goes. As you see some of the art come and go (as the projectors continue to next piece) it’s almost as if you want to capture it in the moment just as it is there because it isn’t there forever. I mean yes you can stay for the loop repeat but it’s awesome to soak in art as you’re meant to receive it as it’s presented to you. Just like a dream, just like life. Enjoy it in the moment!
