Carmel, California - the local hidden gems and tourist favorite must see and do's
Beyond lucky that my hometown is in Monterey County. Every time I visit home I become a local tourist visiting all of my hidden gems, favorite must see and do’s in the area. Sharing with you my Carmel recommendations to add to your vacation / day cation / stay cation plans. Everyone visits Ocean Ave (and yes I think you should too) but these places are in the surrounding outside area of Ocean Ave and everything is walkable once you’re in the general vicinity.
Cafe Carmel - Coffee and pastry joint with beautiful murals (in the cafe and on nearby walls in the street) . My go-to here is a plain black coffee. Simple and delicious.
Pilgrims Way Community Bookstore - A hidden little gem with a bookstore AND a secret garden in the back, the BEST trinkets (fairies, mermaids, things for the home, garden rocks, etc.
The Nut Hut - This cute hut has great things to buy but what I love most is that the store itself has such an awesome storefront / architecture. It also is in front of a pool fountain that a great photo spot or place to relax and unwind.
La Playa Hotel - This hotel used to be a mansion and it was converted into a hotel. The backyard and patio spaces are like a fairytale and everything is picturesque. Human sized chess game is a great photo op in their backyard.
Little Napoli - Next best thing to Italy food is this gem! I prefer eating outside on the patio as it feels cozy and quaint. As you walk through to the back it truly feels like a hidden spot to dine. Great ambiance and delicious food!
Starlight Rooftop Lounge - THE place for drinks and cocktails perched on a cute rooftop. The string lights set the mood, and the pizza is a MUST!
Let me know if you’ve ever been to any of the places above or if you have any other favorite spots to share.
