Full Bloom Springtime Fun at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, California

Nothing quite says springtime like a visit to the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, CA. Colorful flowers, fresh air, beautiful photo ops, and endless fields of exploration.

This farm land is a great weekend getaway or staycation for SoCal locals and is definitely a highlight to visitors and tourists who are visiting in the San Diego area.

Details, guide, and tips:

  • Tickets

  • Best times to visit the flower fields

    • Springtime (March - May) is the best time to visit because everything is typically in full bloom; however, it really varies what the colors, bloom, etc. will be due to mother nature! Anytime is really great to visit (so long as they are open which varies the time of year - check their website) to see flowers in all various stages of life and beauty

  • Parking

    • Parking is FREE. Note that you cannot return to your car so bring all of your belongings once you leave your car.

    • The lot up front is small but just next door is the outlets which offers free parking too. Very walkable, very accessible (plus, set you up for shopping right after ;) )

  • Food

    • There are dessert booths and vending machines available but nothing for a hearty lunch.

    • Pack a picnic to enjoy. NOTE: you cannot return to your car so you either have to trek around the fields with your food in a backpack or basket OR get there, eat at the picnic tables, and then walk it off when you explore the fields

    • Just next door to the fields are many food options at the outlets if you prefer to dine before or after your visit

  • Pictures and Views

    • They have taped off areas that allow for proper distancing and the perfect photo op! Be sure to allow the people ahead of you time to get their shot. Don’t crowd or hover. There are notes posted that there is a suggested 10 min. max for pics so let them use their time (so you can also use yours)

    • There are a TON of photo ops. Walk further out to switch up the wait times if one area is crowded.

    • Angles are everything! You can really get some depth in your pictures here so utilize the benches set up at the taped off areas to get angles that really show off the rows and miles of flowers

    • You can see the ocean from the top of the fields. Be sure to walk up all the way to the top for that big ocean blue horizon

  • Activities on the fields

    • If you want to experience the fields differently, try the tractor ride for a small additional fee

    • The Sweet Pea maze! You’ll get lost but it’s a great puzzle. Open air and you’ll find your way.

    • Explore (and respect) the flowers! It’s great to just roam around and soak it all up. Be sure to watch your step and mind the taped off areas.

    • Check out their calendar of activity events on their website. They sometimes host yoga, tea times, entertainment, etc.

  • What to wear/bring:

    • comfortable shoes

    • try a solid colored dress or outfit instead of flowers. Let the flowers show off instead of your outfit.

    • floppy hat (it just looks so great in pics) plus, the sun :)

    • camera

    • lunch (if not dining outside)

Roses are red, violets are blue, I love the Flower Fields and I hope you do too!

xo,
